Quick Update.

Really quick update. We've decided to open The Lost Ones with a quotation from Existentialist theorist and writer Jean-Paul Satre as we feel it sumarises the nature of this project very well.

Jean-Paul Sartre - The French
 existentialist author.
'For an occurrence to become an adventure, it is necessary and sufficient for one to recount it.'
We think this quotation reflects the mans reflections upon Violet, as he is recounting his memories of her in order to come to an 'end of an era'.

Sartre was a French author, play-write and philosepher who often commented on the futility of life and the lack of hope for things to come. He was offered a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1964 but refused it.

Costumes and Updates :)

Hello again!

Tomorrow is our first proper bit of filming. We're going to be doing our first bit of Stop Motion filming, with Violet (played by actress Sammie Wright) so I thought it might be worth going into a bit of detail about costumes.

Violets costume is the most important, as there is a lot of symbolism involved with her clothing. We have requested that Sammie wears a blue dress & blue cardigan, for several reasons. Blue is often seen as an angelic colour, so if Violet wears blue clothes, it hints that she is dead and just a dream. Also 'blue violets' symbolize faithfulness  so the juxtaposition of the characters name and the blue colour suggests the man will stay faithful to Violet forever.

The dress of the man should be smart, as if he is trying to impress Violet, seen as though it could be the last time they meet.

Anyhoo, that's that! Hopefully can post some screen grabs tomorrow evening :)

I'm partial for a little bit of Stop Motion!

How do.

After a bit of flicking around on YouTube, we found some pretty funky videos made through Stop-Motion (for example - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4yuBo5qY0I&feature=channel_video_title) and we thought it would be really cool to include some of this effect in our little cut scenes. We trialed it today and are very happy with the results!

Will post video soon :)

Audience Survey

I've just gone out and conducted a survey of 17 year olds (our average target audience age). Heres what we found out.

Most people we surveyed watch between 2-3 short films a month. Also the bulk of people surveyed would rather watch an intilectual film where they are challenged to work stuff out, rather than an easy view like stereotypical Hollywood films. A lot of people want to watch short films on YouTube but several suggested an interest in downloading films to iPhone/iPod. We may now make our film avaliable to download for free, so people can easily import them to iTunes and watch them on the go. Although most people woul dpay to watch a short film (average of £2) we are not going to charge for the physical download as we dont think its apropriate for a 5 minute short amateur film.

DESTRUCTION!!!!

Hello Media-type people!

So since we last talked some stuff has happened :)
  • We went out and made a rough visual story board (will upload when I get the chance)
  • We started taking a viewer survey (again, results to be posted soon)
  • We came up with some interesting new concepts about destruction.
So I thought I would talk to you about some of these destructive themes!

A Libyan rebel.

In my head, I see destruction as a means of exploiting human life. This is obviously very relevant to what we are trying to achieve in The Lost Ones as the bulk of our story line is to do with the disregard for inocent human life in the New York 9/11 attacks. We wanted to hint at the ultimate reveal of Violets death by showing short clips of distruction in the abstract minimalist cut scenes (that resemble the cut scenes in Natural Born Killers).
Some of these destructive split second shots we hope to use include obvious shots of the New York on the day of 9/11, but we also hope to see flashes of other  typres of destruction, like the arab uprising, the tank rolling into Tianamen Square and nuclear mushroom clouds.
Student protester at Tianamen Square

We want to show destruction in all its many forms, so another more interesting way of showing this would be showing screenshots of faked (due to copyright reasons) reality showsm in which people are watched by the public who ultimately tuning in to see the destruction of emotionaly unstable people for entertainment purposes. Shows like Britains Got Talent spring to mind in which talentless people are carted out onto the stage to be mocked and laughed at, not only by Simon Cowell, but also by the general public as we gawp at their ultimate destruction.

These are all key elements that we wish to adress in our project.

Keeping Connected

Now that we're starting to get closer to filming the project, we need to start thinking about staying connected. The best way we have found to do this is with new social networking platform Google Plus. Using the 'Hangout' video conferenceing tool, we can stay in contact with the production company and the actors, and we can also share ideas, screen grabs, and keep us all in the loop.
