The Idea is Here!

Well over this past week and a bit, Nathan, Sam and I have devised a pretty clear mental image of where we want this project to go. Nathan being the awesome person he is was scanning the internet, when he came across a short film called 'Missed' that really spoke to us. After much deliberation, we have decided we would like to use this short film as inspiration to make our own film.

So without further ado, here's what we are thinking.

The film is called 'The Lost Ones' and it follows the story of a man in a pub. The man has no name as I feel the anonymity of this makes the situation and content of the film transferable and relateable to anyone (a technique I discovered after and reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road. The man sits and observes news footage on the television, that shows the 9/11 attacks a year on. The man breaks away from the screen and takes a cigarette out of his pocket. As he does, a barman collecting glasses walks up to him and asks the man if he's waiting for someone. He informs the barman that he is and that she'll be here very soon.
After a short while, the woman (Violet) enters the bar. She is wearing a bright blue dress and sits across the table from the man. The man orders Violet a blue WKD and the barman brings it over to the table, looking puzzled at the man. The two proceed to talk about mundane things like forgetting to take out the rubbish, and not cleaning up after using the kitchen. The conversation then takes a more sinister tone, when the man says 'I miss you, you know. You're always working so far away. It's like we never have time for each other any more.' Violet is very apologetic and the couple start to talk about raising a family when everything calms down, and organising a wedding. It's at this point that the mans phone rings, he slowly picks it up and answers with 'Yes, Red Spider Lileys. She liked those'. The man looks down at his lap and when he looks up Violet is no longer there. He looks down again at his engagement ring. He slowly takes it off and places it infront of him. The barman walks up to him and looks at the full bottle of WKD across the table from him. He asks if the man is okay, and he replies 'Yes, just a little lost' He gets up, leaving the ring behind him.

We've tried to work a lot of symbolism into this work, and I hope to share some of that with you very soon.

Be ready for a script also :)
